10 Things to Do With Your Dog Outside This Summer
It’s our favorite time of year because the weather is warming up off all over the country, daylight is lasting longer, and there are more opportunities to play with our pups outdoors. The iFetch team took some votes and put together a list of our favorite outdoor activities to do with our dogs. A few important reminders when playing with your dog outdoors in the warmer weather is to be sure to take breaks and give your dog water frequently to keep hydrated, limit outdoor time on extra hot days, and monitor your dogs to make sure they are happy and healthy!
1. Walk – nothing beats a good, old-fashioned walk with your dog by your side. A walk is one of the greatest ways to unwind, relax and bond with your dog. Keep an eye on the temperature outdoors, and if it’s too hot, stick to evening or night time strolls. We recommend using a reflective collar on your dog if you are walking your dog at night.
2. Hiking – make sure to bring plenty of water, a portable dog bowl, and a first aid kit for your pup just in case!
3. Dog park – find a fun dog park in your area to bring your dog to play with other dogs! There are usually age and vaccination requirements so be sure to look up the rules before attending.
4. Frisbee – some dogs prefer fetching with a Frisbee over a ball. Find a big outdoor space and have a blast throwing the Frisbee to your pup!
5. Water – on those super hot days, it’s always fun to cool off in the pool or lake. If your dog likes swimming, let them join! Make sure to supervise your dog while swimming just in case!
6. Outdoor movies or concerts in the park – some cities offer outdoor movies and concerts in parks during the Spring/Summer months. Find out if one near you is dog friendly and bring your pup along as your date!
7. Photo Shoot – feeling creative? Take your dog to some outdoor places around town and snap some photos. Who doesn’t want more adorable pics of their pup?
8. Charity Dog Walks – there are often walks for charity and other fundraisers where attendees bring their dogs. Look one up in your area and do some good with your pup by your side! If you can’t find one, look into organizing one yourself!
9. Dinner date – more and more cities are becoming dog friendly. Find a local restaurant with an outdoor patio that allows pets and bring your dog along for date night! Don’t forget to give your dog his dinner too!
